INSTRUCTION FOR TEXT PREPARATION

(FORM D)

The Proceedings of the XXIX IAHR Congress will be issued as a combination of a set of printed Volumes and a CD-ROM with the full papers as agreed by the IAHR Council. In order to achieve a timely publication, the texts will be printed on CD-ROM directly from authors submissions. The authors are therefore fully responsible for the quality of their article and are kindly requested to observe the following instructions. The authors should guarantee the quality of his/her paper in both content and language, to avoid rejection by the reviewing group. Please read the instruction carefully!

 

General

  1. The text should be typed in Microsoft WORD format (Word 97 or below). Keep the layout of the text as simple as possible.
  2. Deadline for the receipt of manuscripts of full papers is 30 November 2000 to enable inclusion in the Proceedings.
  3. The manuscripts are to be submitted in electronic and printed format.
  4. The maximum number of pages in Technical Sessions and Student papers should not exceed 6 pages (abstract included).

Electronic Text Preparation

  1. Text preparation
  2. The electronic text should be prepared in a way very similar to that of the conventional manuscripts (see below). The list of references, tables and figure captions should be compiled separately from the main text. Do not reserve space for the figures and tables in the text, instead, indicate their approximate locations, either directly in the electronic text or on the manuscript.

  3. Submission
    The final text should be submitted both in manuscript form and on diskette (standard 3.5
    '' diskettes) or by email. It is essential that name and version of the word-processing programme is clearly indicated on the diskette label.
    It is recommended to store the main text, list of references, tables and figure captions in separate text files with clearly identifiable file names (for example, with extensions: TXT, DOC, REF, TBL, FIG).
    Illustrative material (original figures or high-quality glossy prints, or photographs showing a sharp contrast) should be included separately. Color figures are acceptable for electronic text edition

Manuscripts
  1. Manuscripts must be written in English. SI-Units should be used (kg, m, s).
  2. Submit the disk (3.5'' diskettes) and the original illustrations (figures, photographs, etc.). In addition, submit three printouts of your manuscript all with attached or inserted copies of illustrations (figures, photographs, etc.).
  3. Every page of the printed manuscript, including the title page, references, tables, etc., should be numbered. Avoid excessive use of Italics, capitals or bold type in the text.
  4. Manuscripts should be organized in the following order:
    • Title centered in 14 points font in capital
    • Name(s) of author(s) centered in 12 point font, capitals
    • Full affiliation(s) centered in 12 point font
    • Address for correspondence
    • Telephone, fax numbers and e-mail
    • Abstract 12 point font, single spaced, 15 to 25 lines
    • Keywords
    • Introduction
    • Body of text subdivided by subheadings
    • Conclusion
    • Acknowledgements (if applicable)
    • References
    • Tables numbered
    • Numbered figure with captions
  5. Page format:
    A4, single column, margins: left and right 25 mm, top and bottom 25 mm.
  6. Type face
    • Primary heading: 12 point, capitals, centered with one line space above but no space below.
    • Secondary heading: 12 point, capitals, flush left, with one line space above but no space below.
    • Third level heading: 12 point, flush left, underlined.
    • Regular text: 12 point, flush left, with one line space between paragraphs.
  7. Arial or Times New Roman.
    The organizers reserve the right to return to the author for revision of accepted manuscripts and illustrations that are not in the proper form given in these guidelines.

Illustrations, Formulae, References

  1. Original illustrations (line drawings and photographs) should be ready for printing. Only black and white photographs of good contrast and intensity are accepted. Xerox copies of photographs can not be accepted.
  2. Each illustration should be identified on the reverse side by its number and the name of the author. An indication of the top of the illustrations required in those cases where doubts may arise.
  3. Illustrations should be designed with the format of the page in mind. They should be of such a size as to allow a reduction of 50%.
  4. Mathematical formulae should be written in electronically compatible form.
  5. Reference: Any standard reference system may be used.
  6. Footnotes should only be used if absolutely essential.

Copyright

Submission of a paper will be interpreted as a statement that the author has obtained all the necessary permission.

Checklist

  • Observe and stick to the deadline (November 30, 2000) for sending the contribution.
  • Photocopy your contribution before sending it.
  • Use a strong card-board envelope when you mail your contribution/ diskettes. And do not fold the sheets.
  • Send the contribution by registered mail/air mail or a courier service.
  • Submission of contribution together with FORM B.

Submission of manuscripts

Submission of an article is understood to imply that the article is original and unpublished and is not being considered for publication elsewhere.
If the address to which proofs should be sent is different from the correspondence address, authors are kindly requested to indicate this.
